A question on the lips of many Computer Maintenance / Service Technicians is: What will the credit crunch mean for my business?
As the banks fail and the stores begin to close, the credit crunch makes its way across the country with no remorse. Many companies are looking at closure if they don’t find drastic cost cutting measures… FAST!
During this time of tight budget control, the last thing you need is computer failure. The cost of fixing a problem can run into the hundreds of pounds, even more if you count the cost of downtime and any knock-on effects. These kind of issues are what are causing most IT managers and users to begin looking at preventive computer maintenance.
Preventive Maintenance for Computers has for years been overlooked. Now there is a greater need for saving money and lower IT budgets, it makes sense to keep your existing computer hardware in good working order. For years, the pros have used preventive maintenance to keep their expensive computer systems in almost brand new condition. It’s about time that the general public started to wake up to this issue and fast!
PCs suffer badly when they overheat, overheating is caused by a build-up of dust, dirt, animal hair and smoke resins (or any combo) building an insulating layer of grime on the computer’s internal parts. Fans that are designed to cool the computer down internally can block up with fluff (even worse in the homes of smokers and / or animal owners), this restricts the airflow inside the computer case and let’s the temperature rise. Components within the computer start to lose performance when they run above optimal temperatures, some can fail causing catastrophic issues for the user(s).

Preventive Maintenance.
You wouldn’t let your brand new car break down before taking it for its first service would you? I wouldn’t. I’m assuming you wouldn’t either, but would you take your computer for a service even if it seems like there is nothing wrong?
That’s just it, in the past, many people have left their computer until something fails and then called a computer technician out. At a considerable cost the computer can be fixed but it could have been prevented with some fast, safe, easy, preventive maintenance. Typically, preventive maintenance costs 1/3 of the cost of the average computer repair bill. That’s not including any time lost due to downtime.
